TWINS CLUBHOUSE — Is this a sign of things to come for the Twins? After last nights 4-3 loss to the Brewers, a loss in which reliever Jose Mijares gave up 2 run double to Prince Fielder to clinch the game, there was a war of words in the clubhouse. These quotes come from MLB.com’s Jordan Schelling recap (a must follow on twitter for Twins fans @JordanSchelling). Mijares threw 6 straight fastballs to Fielder and wondered why Mauer never called for the slider (who knows why Mijares didn’t shake off Mauer)……
“I don’t know what’s going on with Mauer,” Mijares said. “He never put down a sign for breaking ball. Never. It was fastball, fastball, fastball, fastball.”
Mauer responded with on of the best comebacks in recent memory…..
“Called for a fastball there,” Mauer said. “I didn’t call for it down the middle.”
It was rather surprising to hear such words coming out of the cute little Twins clubhouse. These things usually happen behind closed doors I’m sure but it was really something hearing somebody calling out the Baby Jesus, Joe Mauer. Furthermore, even Gardenhire questioned Mauer….
“I’m just disappointed because we threw six straight fastballs,” Gardenhire said. “Looking for a breaking ball, even 3-2, and we never threw it; we threw another fastball. And that’s disappointing to me because we have to execute better than that.”
The oddest part of the night was when a fight broke out between Mijares and Mauer in the depths of Miller Park. This is exclusive TTBB footage….
