Joe Mauer “Yankee Killer” Review

Joe Mauer is featured in Playstation’s MLB The Show game for a second season in a row.  I think we all remember last years commercial promoting the game because it gave us the line “Well played Mauer”.  Today I saw the first (that I’ve seen) video for MLB 11 The Show and it’s called “Yankee Killer”.  I have to admit, I did a facepalm at first just thinking about the Twins lack of success against the Yankees and why the game would go this route in advertising.  I guess technically you could say Joe’s a Yankee killer posting a .290 career BA and a .829 OPS against them.  The funny part is in the video, lefty CC Sabathia is the pitcher and Joe hasn’t fared well against him in his career posting a .217 BA.
Here’s the video…

Overall the video is pretty realistic both visually and contextually except they forgot the part where Phil Cuzzi calls the ball foul and screws over the Twins. They also didn’t show the part where the Twins intentionally walk the bases full to pitch to Alex Rodriguez (I love that one).

Now I’m pumped for baseball and this game.

Definitely the first thing I thought of was the Cuzzi call. False advertising guys.

Is it my imagination, or does the guy calling the plays sound remarkably like Dick Bremer?

    Wow, that’s cool.

Very cool indeed. I think I’ve been sold on it for another year.
