Is This Joe Mauer Autograph Card an Error Card?

March 23, 2010

I’ve been a collector of baseball cards for most of my life up until a few years ago.  I still hold on to all of my Joe Mauer rookie cards and other autograph cards because I have faith that they will be worth something when he retires as a Yankee Twin.  I have one card of Mauer that has his autograph on some baseball leather with a photo of him (?) on it.  The past five years I’ve been looking at this thing and still don’t believe it’s actually his face on the card.  The autograph is his but the face on the card just doesn’t look exactly like him.  So who is it?  I don’t know but I’m guessing perhaps someone else from the Mauer gene pool.  Anyone have any ideas?

Is this Joe or another Mauer?

UPDATE: Eric Olson found this website that would suggest it is Jake Mauer .  Good work by Eric, I suggest yall read his Twins blog at .  There you will find his Call to The Pen Blog about the Twins which on the ADD meter, it keeps me reading so it has to be a good read.

UPDATE:  Received a tweet today from someone who would know..

@bennyc50 @akneeland That is in fact Joe’s older brother Jake pictured. It’s an Upper Deck goof.

You can visit his site at

Would also like to thank @akneeland for suggesting @FCBsportscards may know the answer.  His blog also passes the ADD meter

well, if it were joe, wouldn’t his bat most likely be on the other shoulder? Unless they were doing some straight up posing. Just my observation.

We reached this conclusion on Twitter, but I wanted to lay claim to it on the post – it’s Jake.
