Amid Controversy, Slowey Lands New Sponsorship Deal

TARGET FIELD — Former Twins starter and current DL pitcher Kevin Slowey has been in the news quite a bit lately.  Rumors are swirling that the former promising prospect no longer wants to work out of the bullpen and only work as a starter.  For a team that already has 5 aces, this is a problem for Slowey and word is the Twins are looking to trade him once he gets healthy.

However, the night is always darkest before the dawn and there is some good news for Mr. Slowey.  Amid the controversy surrounding Slowey and his unwillingness to be anything but a starting pitcher, the Starter brand has jumped on the situation and signed Kevin Slowey to their team.  He now joins the likes of Tony Romo and homeless people wearing Cowboy Starter jackets, with nothing on underneath.  Let’s hope this huge sponsorship deal marks the beginning of better times for Mr. Slowey.

On a serious note: It sucks that it’s come to this with Slowey and the Twins.  When healthy he was a welcome addition to the rotation, and still would be if we didn’t already have 5 aces.  I’m not here to rip him because I have no freaking clue what is going on behind the scenes, and won’t pretend to either.  Personally I’d rather have Duensing go back to the bullpen and help there and move Slowey out to the rotation, a role he’s been in before.  That said, I couldn’t help but not put this up because I thought it was funny.

If we have seen the last of Slowey as a Twins pitcher, we wish him the best and that Bill Smith gets something of value in any potential trade.

As to whether or not Bill Smith gets any value out of a Slowey trade depends on how highly you value a bag of balls.
